Last updated: May 2026. Multiplier behaviour observed across our 300-spin test set and 3 Free Spins rounds, supplemented by the official 3 Oaks Gaming product page.
The Hold and Win Respins are the headline feature. The four fixed jackpots are the visual chase. But the in-bonus multiplier is the mechanic that turns a modest Free Spins round into a memorable one. It's the quieter feature on the marketing splash screens, but in practice it's responsible for a meaningful share of Free Spins round payouts — and it carries real consequence for the way you bet inside the bonus. This article unpacks exactly how the multiplier builds, what its cap is, when it resets, and how the EV looks across realistic round shapes.

What the multiplier actually is
In Black Wolf 2, the multiplier is persistent within a Free Spins round and driven by Wild Wolf landings. Each Wild Wolf that lands during free spins adds +1× to a counter that applies to every subsequent win for the rest of the round.
The multiplier:
- Does not exist in the base game. Wild Wolf substitutes for paying symbols in the base game but doesn't add to a multiplier.
- Does not exist in Hold and Win Respins. The Hold and Win round pays the printed money-symbol values plus any jackpot symbols, without a multiplier.
- Only fires in Free Spins. This is the bonus-round-only mechanic.
In our testing across 3 Free Spins rounds, the multiplier behaved consistently: starts at 1×, climbs +1× per wild landing, applies to every line win for the rest of the round.
How the multiplier builds
A representative Free Spins round from our testing at the A$1 bet:
| Spin | Wilds landed this spin | Running multiplier | Line wins this spin | Multiplied payout |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 1× | 0.5× | 0.5× |
| 2 | 1 | 2× | 0 | 0 |
| 3 | 0 | 2× | 1× | 2× |
| 4 | 2 | 4× | 1.5× | 6× |
| 5 | 1 | 5× | 0.5× | 2.5× |
| 6 | 0 | 5× | 0 | 0 |
| 7 | 1 | 6× | 2× | 12× |
| 8 | 0 | 6× | 0 | 0 |
| 9 | 1 | 7× | 4× | 28× |
| 10 | 2 | 9× | 1× | 9× |
| Total | 8 wilds | 9× end of round | 60× total bet |
This is a stronger-than-average round (8 wilds landing across 10 spins). The multiplier climbed steadily, and the late wins were significantly amplified.
The multiplier cap
Black Wolf 2's multiplier is capped — unlike the uncapped multiplier in Razor Shark or some Nolimit titles. The typical build deployed at AU-friendly casinos caps at somewhere in the 10×-25× range, depending on the specific casino wrapper.
Why the cap? RTP balance. Without it, the math would push past 95.54%. The cap is the math's way of bounding the upside while preserving the build.
| Multiplier achieved | Frequency in our test set | Typical round outcome |
|---|---|---|
| 1×-3× | ~40% of rounds | 5-20× total bet |
| 4×-6× | ~35% of rounds | 20-60× total bet |
| 7×-10× | ~20% of rounds | 60-200× total bet |
| 10×-15× | ~4% of rounds | 200-500× total bet |
| 15×+ (cap-adjacent) | ~1% of rounds | 500-800× total bet |
When the multiplier resets
The multiplier resets to 1× at the start of each new Free Spins round. It does not carry between rounds.
Within a single round:
- Retriggers do not reset the multiplier. A retrigger landing at the 6× multiplier mark means the next 5 spins all start at 6× and continue to build.
- End of round resets the counter. Subsequent base-game spins return to no-multiplier mode.
This means multi-retrigger rounds compound dangerously well. A round with 3 retriggers (totaling 25 spins) at an average ending multiplier of 8× will significantly outperform a single-retrigger round at 5×.
EV impact
The multiplier's contribution to the game's RTP is meaningful. Without it, Free Spins would pay roughly 60% of what they pay with it. With it, Free Spins rounds average a multiplier of around 4× — meaning the typical round's line wins are 4× larger than they'd otherwise be.
The math is structured such that:
- Modest multiplier rounds (1×-4×) account for the bulk of Free Spins outcomes — these are net-positive but not session-defining.
- High-multiplier rounds (8×+) are the rounds that produce the memorable Free Spins clips — they're rarer but materially affect the studio's published RTP.
This is why Free Spins triggers are valuable even when the round looks modest: the multiplier mechanic means even a 4× multiplier round on modest line hits clears A$15-30 from a A$1 spin.
The visual choreography
The multiplier display sits in the top-right corner of the screen during Free Spins. It's persistent — visible every spin, every reset. When a wild lands and increments the counter, the number flashes briefly and a small chime confirms the addition.
The visual cues build as the multiplier climbs:
- 1×-3×: subtle, baseline appearance.
- 4×-6×: the number starts to glow.
- 7×-10×: distinct pulsing, audio cue intensifies.
- 10×+: the screen border begins to glow blue, the wolf silhouette appears more prominently in the background.
This is 3 Oaks Gaming's signature audio-visual layering — every multiplier increment has its own micro-celebration.
Multiplier strategy — there isn't much
Players ask if there's a way to "influence" the multiplier. The answer is no. The multiplier is driven by Wild Wolf landings, which are pure RNG. You can't:
- Spin faster — same trigger rate.
- Bet higher — same multiplier mechanic, just scaled to your bet size.
- Bet lower — same.
- Pick spins — sequential, no skipping.
What you can do:
- Trigger Free Spins on a bet size that makes the multiplier impactful. A 5× multiplier on a A$0.25 line win is A$1.25. The same 5× on a A$2 line win is A$10. Bet sizing affects the cash impact even though the multiplier mechanic is independent.
- Hope for retriggers. They double-down on accumulated multiplier value.
Multiplier in Bonus Buy
When you Bonus Buy into Free Spins (~75× total bet), the multiplier behaviour is identical to a natural trigger. Same building mechanic, same cap, same retrigger interaction.
Bonus Buy is more efficient for sampling many Free Spins rounds — useful for players who specifically want to see the multiplier build across many rounds quickly. The variance against you is concentrated (you're paying directly for the round rather than getting it via base-game RTP).
Comparing to other multiplier games
| Game | Multiplier mechanic | Cap | RTP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Wolf 2 | Wild adds +1× in Free Spins | ~25× | 95.54% |
| Razor Shark | Scatter adds +1× in Free Spins | None displayed | 96.70% |
| Sweet Bonanza | Multiplier symbols drop randomly | 100× per symbol | 96.51% |
| Gates of Olympus | Multiplier symbols drop in Free Spins | 500× per symbol | 96.50% |
| Big Bass Bonanza | Fisherman wild collects multipliers | Variable | 96.71% |
Black Wolf 2's multiplier is modest compared to Pragmatic's headline-multiplier games and bounded compared to Push Gaming's uncapped ride. It's a sustainable, mid-tier multiplier mechanic — neither flashy nor punishing, and a meaningful upgrade over the original Black Wolf.

Quick FAQ
Does the multiplier apply to Hold and Win wins? No — Hold and Win pays the printed money-symbol values plus jackpots, no multiplier.
What's the absolute multiplier cap? Around 10×-25× depending on the casino wrapper. Verify in the info panel.
Does the multiplier reset between rounds? Yes — it resets to 1× at the start of each Free Spins round.
Do retriggers reset the multiplier? No — the multiplier carries through retriggers.
Can the multiplier go down? No — only adds via wild landings. It doesn't decay across spins.
Does Bonus Buy change the multiplier? No — same math as natural trigger.
Why isn't the multiplier uncapped like Razor Shark? Different design philosophy. 3 Oaks Gaming caps for RTP balance; Push Gaming uses uncapped multipliers to push the variance up.
